NORTH CAROLINA/SMOKY MOUNTAINS

Last weekend we got back from our week long trip to the Smoky Mountains and North Carolina.  We so enjoyed the time together as a family without running around and waking up to an alarm clock.  We rented a cabin in Bryson City, NC and it was perfect for us.  It had two bedrooms, two bathrooms, and a full kitchen.  It also had a washer and dryer-very important for traveling with an infant.  :)  The view was the best.  Ty did very good on his first airplane to Knoxville, TN. He slept on the first leg of the trip.  He fell asleep before the plane took off and was still sleeping when we landed.  The next leg he was up, but did very well.   The weather was in the low 70's and it was mostly dry except for one day of rain.  We toured much of the Smoky Mountains, visited the Biltmore Estate, took a couple of hikes, saw the biggest dam east of the Mississippi, saw the Joyce Kilmer Memorial Forest, visited some of the mountain towns near the Smokies, and traveled a small leg of the Blue Ridge Parkway.  The scenery was wonderful, but we were too early for the Fall leave change.  The advantage to this is we avoided the crowds.  Unfortunately we did the Tennessee side of the Smokies on a Sat and it was way too crowded and slow going for us with an infant.  We found the people of Bryson City to be very helpful and super nice.  It was really the perfect trip to take with Ty.

We think Ty enjoyed his first vacation and he has again proven to be a good traveler.  I think he liked most that he had our complete attention 24/7 for 9 days.  He did struggle on the last leg of the trip home.  He screamed and cried for about 5 minutes.  We had some glares from some of the passengers, but once he got his bottle he fell asleep right away.  We feel fortunate we were able to take the time to vacation together as a family.   It shows us how important it is to slow down and enjoy those small precious moments of life. I am already trying to think of where our next trip should be?

Enjoy some of the pictures from our trip!
