FIRST CAMPING TRIP

On Memorial Day weekend we were so excited to try camping for the first time.  We were able to get a campsite at Peninsula State Park last minute.  We had to reserve for three nights, but knew we would not get there before Saturday.  It was a beautiful, perfect day!  We grabbed pizza (Ty's favorite) for lunch.  We then decided to drive around to give Ty a nap before we settled into the camp.  We spent the rest of the day just enjoying the campsite and Ty had lots of fun exploring.  He loved all the sticks, dirt, and leaves to play with.  He loved watching the fire and eating smores.

Bedtime was not so good. . . . It took Ty about an hour to settle into sleep.  Lots of tossing and turning in the tent.  He ended up falling asleep and we thought we were safe.  At about midnight, Ty woke up crying uncontrollably.  This was so not like him.  He is usually easy to settle down.  Matt took Ty into the car and he continued to cry.  We felt so bad for him and we felt horrible for all the other campers who did not want to listen to a crying child.  After an hour of trying to calm Ty down; we decided to leave the campsite.  We originally thought we would head home and then come back and pack up later.  But we decided to pack up at 1am in the morning.  I drove Ty around in the car so he could sleep and Matt took the tent down.  We arrived home at 4am and Ty slept peacefully the next night.  We will try camping in our backyard before we go out again.

We do have some good memories of the day and we are glad we attempted the trip!

The rest of Memorial Day weekend we spent relaxing at home.  We had lunch downtown, walked to the park down the street, and went to the Wildlife Sanctuary.
